What is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP as it is more commonly known, is the delivery of voice information in digital form in discrete packets (using Internet Protocol) rather than in the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

What is Voice over Wireless IP?
Voice over Wireless IP is the delivery of voice service over unlicensed wireless networks such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Also known as Voice over Wireless Lan (VoWLAN or VoWi-Fi), it is a further step in the VoIP revolution as it enables wireless devices such as phones, PDAs and laptops to be used to make calls over wireless IP Connections.

How does Voice over Wireless IP differ from VoIP?
VoIP users need to physically connect to the Internet to deliver voice services. With voice over wireless IP, individuals can use their mobile phone or PDA to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels.

Where can you make a voice over wireless IP call?
You can make these calls anywhere you have a wireless access point or hotspot. It will work at home where you have a Wi-Fi access point and a broadband connection, at work over the corporate Wi-Fi or in a public hotspot location.

Can Cicero work with a SIP device?
Yes. Cicero is designed to integrate with SIP devices and switches.

How does Cicero reduce costs and increase revenues for the Operator?
Adding a new voice service to their bundle of offerings, operators will increase revenues by capturing voice traffic on their networks that would previously have been routed over cellular networks.
In addition, by routing calls to mobile phones through Cicero, operators can benefit from reduced interconnect costs.

How does Cicero deliver lower call cost benefits to the subscriber?
As Cicero enables the operator to terminate calls over low cost networks, these savings can be passed on to the subscriber in terms of lower call charges.

Can Cicero be used for both inbound and outbound calls?
Yes. Cicero can be used for both inbound and outbound calls. For inbound call termination this means when a subscriber enters a wireless access point area, the phone client will alert the controller which makes it possible to terminate calls to that device.

Do I need to have a Mobile Switching Centre to deploy Cicero-based voice services?
No. Cicero operates independently of the cellular network and therefore does not require operators to have an MSC to deploy.

Can I use Cicero on wireless devices that do not have a SIM?
Yes. Cicero does not require SIM authentication for subscribers.

Does Cicero work over wireless broadband connections such as WiMAX or 802.20?
Cicero works over all licensed and unlicensed networks.
