Cicero Networks puts VoIP on Mobile Phones

New smartphone version fulfils the real promise of VoIP mobility; new Controller module delivers seamless mobility across IP and Cellular networks.

Cicero Networks Ltd., a leading developer of wireless Voice over IP (wVoIP) solutions, today announced the launch of the eagerly awaited smartphone version of CiceroPhone, converged VoIP/Cellular softphone. In addition, Cicero has also announced a new Call Continuity server, a major new enhancement to the Cicero Controller enabling seamless roaming between both Wi-Fi/GSM and Wi-Fi/CDMA networks.

Using CiceroPhone, users can make and receive all of their calls – VoIP, Fixed and Cellular – though a single user interface on their mobile phone. Together with the new seamless roaming features delivered by Cicero Controller, operators can now deliver an always-on mobile service, whereby calls are optimally routed based on network availability (Wi-Fi/Cellular), cost and Quality of Service (QoS).

“Ease of use and transparency of service using dual-mode phones are the key factors which will drive the adoption of converged fixed mobile services”, says Ross Brennan, CEO Cicero Networks. “We have been very focused in ensuring our wireless VoIP solutions meet the operator requirements in these areas, which in turn will enable them to deliver compelling new services to their subscribers”.

The CiceroPhone smartphone client is being showcased on the recently launched Qtek 8310/8300, the first Windows Mobile dual-mode smartphones to come market.

“HTC constantly strives to provide innovation to our customers through leading edge products to the wireless consumer and enterprise markets. By providing Qtek series with Cicero Networks solution, users can easily maintain mobility and flexibility and enjoy visually rich, personalised communications anytime, anywhere”, said Peter Chou, President of HTC.

CiceroPhone smartphone client is available immediately for Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone and PDA devices.  The Cicero Controller Call Continuity module is scheduled for release mid-December 2005.
